SOFT SURFACE TRAILS MANAGEMENT PLAN

J+S worked with Seattle Parks to develop a plan for managing their 100-miles of soft surface trails—hiking and walking trails that are a tremendous resource for the City and its citizens but are deteriorating due to lack of a centralized management system and resources. The plan identifies the organizational structure and additional staffing needed to keep the trail system safe, engaging, and sustainable. The plan provides standards and guidelines for trails and signage, level of service maintenance expectations, record-keeping for continual improvements, accessibility, a system for evaluating new trail proposals and it establishes accessibility standards.
