PATHFINDER K-8 PLAYGROUND

Pathfinder parents and staff wanted to bring interest, challenging play opportunities and some natural elements to their vast, bleak asphalt playground. Staff also hoped to provide safer, more accessible and supervise-able play opportunities for the many kids with special needs at Pathfinder.

J+S worked with the school community to develop a playground that fit their needs, aspirations and budget. The glacial-form stone “esker” is a topographical focal point that is a fun play feature for climbing and hanging out as well as providing quieter subspaces for different activities. The large poured-in place rubber-surfaced play area features equipment that is more challenging and accessible to complement the existing equipment aimed at younger children. A “glacial outwash stream” painted in a big loop around the playground works as a running track.
