OTHELLO PARK

J+S has completed 3 phases of improvements at the 7-acre Othello Park in one of Seattle’s most diverse neighborhoods. Initial improvements focused on lighting, sightlines and “activations” to improve the perception and reality of safety in the park. New entries incorporating signature artwork, a stage, and thorough park renovation have all added up to make the park a vibrant amenity for the community. A 4th phase, a new playground, plaza, and court improvements, will be completed in early 2019.

Client: Othello Park Alliance and Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation
Location: Seattle, WA

“Floor graphics” that pick up on the park’s artwork themes are planned for strategic wayfinding locations along the path system and will encourage walking for exercise on the park’s loop trails.

A new zip line and seat wall added interest in an earlier phase; the rest of the playground will be replaced in 2019.
