Bush School Master Plan

Seattle, Washington

SCOPE:
Campus master plan

STATUS:
Completed 2016

CLIENT:
The Bush School

The Bush School, a private K-12 school in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle is situated on a park-like five and a half acre campus with 11 distinct facilities and extensive outdoor spaces. Founded more than 90 years ago, the school has a rich history of progressive education.

Johnson+Southerland worked with the school, staff, administrators, students, parents, and neighbors to develop a comprehensive campus master plan to guide future campus development. Through extensive interviews, workshops, and site analysis, the document provides a complete assessment of the existing spaces, programs, and facilities, and develops a plan to develop two new structures on campus as well as renovate a number of the existing buildings.

Issues included a requirement to keep the campus in full operation during any construction, the overall site exceeding allowable lot coverage, the age and state of the buildings as well as the need to provide expanded facilities for a growing student population.
