The Thrift Shop is a cornerstone of the Mercer Island community. Located in downtown Mercerdale Park, it is run mainly by volunteers selling donated goods and its proceeds fund Mercer Island's Youth and Family Services program. This project included a needs assessment and design for renovating the existing 8,000 sf building. The planned remodel and 2000sf expansion will better accommodate volunteers, make a more attractive shopping environment for customers and will allow the shop to bring in more revenue. Interior and exterior building design will better accommodate operations and will update inefficient mechanical systems. The site plan sorts out donation drop off from customer parking functions, provides improved park access, reduces impacts on neighbors and brings collateral benefits to Mercerdale Park.
